About us

Shared living should be a choice, not a compromise

We believe a shared home should be somewhere you are glad to come back to, with people you actually get on with. That takes work nobody was doing, so we started doing it.

Why we exist

Renting a room usually means one of two things. Either you take a chance on a classifieds listing with four dark photographs and a landlord you meet once, or you pay for a whole one-bedroom you do not really need because at least you know what you are getting.

Neither is a good deal. The first is a gamble on the house and on whoever is already living in it. The second costs several hundred dollars a month more than it has to.

RimiLiving exists for the people caught between them. You could afford the one-bedroom. You would rather put that money somewhere better, as long as the house is genuinely good and you know who you are moving in with.

So we publish a standard every home has to meet, we screen everyone who applies, and we let you watch a video introduction from your future housemates before you commit to anything.

How we work

Four things we do that a private landlord does not

Professionally managed

Every home is held to a published standard for furnishing, cleanliness and upkeep. Common areas are professionally cleaned, not left to a chore wheel.

Housemates you have met

Watch a video introduction from the people already living there before you decide. No more guessing who is on the other side of the wall.

Matched on how you actually live

We match on sleep schedule, tidiness, guests and pets, so the house works day to day. Never on anything protected by fair housing law.

Real support, from real people

One place to report a problem and a named person who owns it. Maintenance, billing or housemates, you are not chasing a landlord by text.

Where we operate

We are starting in Maryland and the greater Washington, DC area, where we can visit every home ourselves and hold it to the standard we publish. We would rather do that properly in one market than loosely across twenty.
