Fair housing
Equal housing opportunity
We comply with the Fair Housing Act and with every state and county fair housing law that applies where we operate.
Our commitment
RimiLiving does not discriminate, and does not permit owners listing on our platform to discriminate, in the sale, rental, advertising or financing of housing.
Protected characteristics
Federal law protects race, colour, national origin, religion, sex including gender identity and sexual orientation, familial status and disability. Maryland adds further protections, and Montgomery County additionally prohibits discrimination on the basis of ancestry, marital status, presence of children, age, source of income and family responsibilities.
Source of income matters in particular: an owner listing with us may not refuse an applicant because they intend to pay with a housing voucher or other lawful source of income.
How our matching works, and what it will never do
We match prospective housemates on how they live day to day. That means sleep schedule, tidiness, how often they have guests, whether they smoke and whether they have pets.
We do not match on, filter by, or allow owners to filter by any protected characteristic. Our compatibility questionnaire does not ask for them, our search filters do not expose them, and applications presented to owners do not carry them. This is a hard constraint in how the product is built, not a policy that depends on somebody remembering it.
Video introductions
Residents may record a short video introduction, and prospective housemates may watch it. Participation is entirely voluntary and no application is advantaged or disadvantaged by whether somebody records one. Owners may not require a video, may not decline an applicant for declining to record one, and may not use a video as a basis for any decision touching a protected characteristic.
Accessibility and reasonable accommodation
If you have a disability and need a reasonable accommodation or modification to view a listing, apply, or live in one of our homes, contact us and we will work with you and the owner to arrange it.
Reporting discrimination
If you believe you have experienced discrimination on our platform, tell us and we will investigate. We remove listings and owners who discriminate.
You may also file a complaint with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development at hud.gov, with the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, or with the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights. Contacting us does not limit your right to do any of these.
